MySQL issues 24/25th January 2009

Hi all,

We're currently investigating some ongoing issues with MySQL which we have been experiencing since the downtime on the 23rd. We have identified a problem with a particular MySQL query which is run by the cPanel MySQL page which ends up causing a loop within the MySQL process and consumes a large amount of CPU time. Due to this we have had to disable access to the cPanel MySQL page temporarily to prevent this affecting service.

I apologise for the inconvenience this will cause and can assure you we are working to try and restore this as soon as possible.

Server issues Friday 23rd January 2009

You've probably noticed the ups and downs of this evening - we started experiencing issues at roughly 16:30 and there have been a couple of hours of downtime in total.

We believe we have traced the issue to a DDoS attack against a customer's website. We have now disabled access to the section which was under attack and the issues seem to have abated. cPanel was not functioning properly after the server first came back online and had to be upgraded to fix it - please report any strange behaviour experienced.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this incident.

Server upgrade

We will be performing maintenance on Atlantis to address the performance issues which we have been seeing over the last couple of days. We will be increasing the amount of RAM in Atlantis to 4Gb which should alleviate the problem.

To allow these upgrades to take place we need to shut the server down for a short period. We have scheduled a two hour maintenance window for this downtime, though the upgrade is only expected to take approximately 15 minutes between 6-8 AM on Friday the 16th January 2009, the remaining time is allocated to allow for corrections to any issues which may appear after the upgrades have been completed.
